Staying at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast provides a unique opportunity for your Ohio Amish Country travel. When you arrive, you will find that your innkeepers have created itineraries for you to learn about Amish Culture and enjoy the best tourist attractions in Holmes County, Ohio. It takes at least a week to really experience our area:

Amish Culture of Holmes County

Monday We'll map out a route to visit Amish-owned businesses: a candle maker, an Amish General Store, a pine furniture & craft maker, a broom maker & bookstore, & a cheese factory (not Amish).

Tuesday We'll map out a route that includes Amish-owned businesses along with area attractions like: a general store, a basket maker, Lehmans, a bulk foods store, furniture stores, and more.

Wednesday Spend a day exploring culture & history with stops at a couple of pottery places (including Ohio's largest wood-fired kiln), a bell maker & creative craft store, the Victorian House Museum, and historic Millersburg.

Thursday Learn more about the Amish & Mennonite culture by touring the 360-degree mural called Behalt, visit an Amish meat shop, an Amish store that is known for their dried flowers, a shop with handmade quilts and more.

Guggisberg Cheese Factory OhioFriday Don't forget the foods of Holmes County! We can map out a wine & cheese tour, send you to a chocolate factory, cheese factories, trail bologna factory, Amish Wedding Foods store, bulk foods, and more!

Saturday There are many unique and unusual gift shops that you won't find just anywhere. We'll send you from town to town, so that you can take some souvenirs home.

Sunday You can't leave without visiting Warther's Carvings. There are no words to describe it adequately other than you have to go. Roscoe Village is an old, Erie Canal town with a lot of history and worth a visit. Pine Tree Barn is an 1800's barn turned gift shop, furniture shop, and restaurant. A Sunday drive on our scenic Byway is another Sunday option.

Major Attractions in Amish Country.

Monday Visit the Walnut Creek area and tour Yoder's Amish Home and Farm. While you are there, you will learn all about Amish culture and customs. You can even take a buggy ride and visit a school house. In downtown Walnut Creek, be sure to visit Coblentz Chocolate Company where you can watch the staff hand-dipping chocolates and shop in their showroom. Just around the corner is Walnut Creek Cheese, which is like 5-6 stores under one roof. You will find cheese, Uncle Mike's Meats, a bakery, jam and jelly factory, granola factory, kitchen gadgets, bulk foods, a sandwich counter, ice cream, and more!

Tuesday Head just north of the town of Berlin and sample 50 kinds of cheese at Heinis Cheese Chalet. Just down the road hop on a wagon ride to tour Rolling Ridge Ranch where you can see and feed approximately 500 species of animals from around the world. In the same vicinity, you won't want to miss the Behalt Walnut Creek Ohio Chocolate Factorymural at the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center. You will learn all about Amish and Mennonite history. Spend the rest of your day exploring the shops of Berlin including Ohio's largest Christmas store.

Wednesday Visit Mt. Hope and the well-known Mt. Hope Auction House to experience Amish culture and local farm living. While you are in town, you will find quilts, fabrics, a country health store, hardware, and the famous, Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen restaurant.

Thursday Head north from our B&B to Lehmans in Kidron, Ohio. Let your innkeepers share some places to stop on the way to and from this famous attraction.

Friday Visit downtown Millersburg. In the morning, you can take a self-guided, historic walking tour of the famous buildings that make up the history of Millersburg. (maps available at the Chamber of Commerce). Visit some of the antique malls and gift shops on Main Street. Have lunch at Hotel Millersburg, which is an old stage coach stop. In the afternoon, visit the Victorian House Museum, which was featured on HGTV.

Saturday Go east from the B&B to Warthers Carvings, home of world master carver, Mooney Warther. No words can do justice to describe this museum. Your innkeepers refer to Warthers as "Ohio's Best Kept Secret!" On your way back toward the B&B, stop at Breitenbach Winery. This is Ohio's 2nd largest winery, and they have something for all tastes. Across the street from Breitenbach, you will find Broad Run Cheese House. This is one of the oldest cheese factories in Ohio. Let your innkeepers map out a scenic route to return to the B&B.
Be sure to make time for the nightly campfire at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast, which is a great way to unwind at the end of your day.

Kidron Ohio, Lehmans StoreBeyond our County...

There are so many attractions within a 1-hour radius of our B&B that you can stay with us and journey out each day in a different direction. A sample itinerary would be:

Monday: Check-in and visit the many shops, cheese factories, chocolate factory, Christmas store, and other attractions in Holmes County.

Tuesday: Visit the Amish-owned businesses such as candle makers, basket makers, furniture builders, leather workers, quilt shops, etc.

Wednesday: Visit the west side of Holmes County and the cultural businesses such as Bowden Bells, Treaty Line Pottery Homes County Pottery, etc. Then head over to Mansfield, Ohio, and tour the Mansfield Reformatory . It looks like a stately castle but was once a reformatory and prison. Hollywood even got involved by filming movies such as Shawshank Redemption and Air Force One there. There are a couple of different tours that you can take here.

Thursday: Head up to the Canton area and visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Afterwards head a few miles north to Akron and visit Stan Hywet Mansion and Gardens . The mansion was built of F.A. Seiberling, who was one of the inventors of Good Year Tire. His wife was a famous opera singer who had a music hall put in the mansion. Many famous officials including Presidents have stayed there. You can tour the mansion, take a behind the scenes tour, and tour the beautiful gardens.

Dover Ohio Warther MuseumFriday: Visit Coshocton County and tour Roscoe Village . This is an old Erie Canal town with historical buildings and tours, a museum, plus gift shops and restaurants. You can even take a ride in a wooden keel boat pulled by Belgian work horses.

Saturday: Go east of the B&B to Tuscarawas County. Visit the Swiss village of Sugarcreek and then head over to Dover to visit one of the best museums in the County, Warthers Carvings. Warthers is home of the World Master Carver, Mooney Warther. Mr. Warther carved many famous steam locomotives, invented many products on display, and became a knife maker. The knife factory and gift shop are attached to the museum so that you can take home a souvenir! Hop on I-77 and head north about 10 miles to the village of Zoar . This village was founded by a group of German separatists looking for religious freedom. Wait until you see how they lived! Tour historical buildings, visit shops and have lunch in the local tavern.

Other attractions that are a modest drive from our B&B include Malabar Farms, Longaberger Basket Homestead, Cleveland, and Columbus, Ohio.
